Episode #23: Daphna Horowitz - The Thrill-Seeking, Adventure-Loving CEO Coach
Daphna Horowitz gets bored easily. And it is boredom – or rather, the rejection of it – that has taken her to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, helped her build a global business, and turned her into an eminent coach of CEOs and future leaders.
Inspired by her former career as an actuary and her thrill-seeking instincts, Daphna blends an analytical approach to coaching with a desire to connect authentically and help her clients find their ‘why’.
The unique way in which she provides help to high achievers – who often struggle to ask for it – shines through as she talks about a coaching career that has spanned 15 years and over 4,500 hours of work with high-level leaders and teams.
In this episode, we talk about:
What Daphna believes are the differences between coaches who are struggling and the ones who are making a success of their coaching business, and how to move from one group to the other.
Why coaching really comes from listening with full presence to our clients and ourselves.
The importance of thinking about who you spend time with.
How Daphna uses rhythm to find flow with her business AND give her family – the most important thing to her – what they need.
Daphna’s thoughts on defining ourselves, our branding and our message by getting to know ourselves.
Daphna also opens up about the personal challenges and growth journeys that are reflected in her Leadership Live podcast and her brand new book, Weekly Habits For Extraordinary Leaders.

FULL BIOGRAPHY FROM DAPHNA
At the age of 23, Daphna was one of five women actuaries in South Africa, working in what she calls "the world of right and wrong". Scrutinising trends in order to forge a picture of the future was a task at which she thrived, but for Daphna there was something missing.
Searching for a deeper connection with people, she moved into a new role teaching the next generation of actuaries in Johannesburg. Then, switching from exact sciences to humanities, she attained her MPhil cum laude, while also taking voluntary positions in various professional organisations and campaigning for equal rights in the workplace.
However, it was not until she took some time out of her career that her greatest adventure began.
Attaining her Master Coach qualification through the International Coaching Federation, Daphna cultivated a circle of coaching peers who would go on to become treasured friends as well as important influences on her career.
A natural flair for coaching took Daphna around the world to work with the leaders of companies including Coca-Cola, Siemens and Standard Chartered Bank, but her life remained full of thrilling experiences that would shape her work.
She can count a successful ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, becoming a saxophonist, completing a pastry chef course and relocating to Israel among her many accomplishments, not to mention building a family with her husband and three children.
Having published several books on leadership and launched her own podcast, Daphna now proudly reflects on her transformation from being someone who coaches CEOs to becoming The CEO Coach.
